Leondre Spates

Age 15

Shreveport, Louisiana

Two days, two hours, two deaths

He was 15 years old, his mother's only son. His cousin, Derrell Williams, was 32 years old, a brother and father.

They had things in common. Family, for one. Their city, Shreveport, Louisiana. He ran out of time the day before Mother’s Day. Derrell made it, but was not around for long. “Back to back,” Derrell’s mother, Debra, said later. “That wasn’t no Mother’s Day for me.”

At 1:45 a.m. on May 12, 2018, Leondré Spates was shot in the head. Two days, two hours and 45 minutes later, Derrell was found the same way.
