A father’s mistake; a son’s death

He had attended schools in two different districts before moving to a private school, but academics were never his passion. What he really loved was the freedom of the outdoors.

His idea of fun was riding his dirt bike, hunting and, most of all, fishing. He was a member of the Grove Fishing Team, Fishing League Worldwide and Bass Nation.

On April 7, 2018, Kyle Anthony McDowell Rutherford, 13, was shot with an AR-15 while driving his brother’s truck in Jay, Oklahoma. The shooter was his father, who mistakenly believed that Kyle was a thief who broke into his older son’s house and stole his truck.
