Keyaris Samuels

Age 7

Plymouth, Minnesota

The box had a gun inside

He was about to finish the first grade. He was “an old spirit” with “a big heart,” his mother said. She called him a “very curious child.”

Most days, the street where he lived was alive with the sound of children playing. But he was alone at home when he found a gun in a box. It was loaded.

Keyaris Samuels, 7, pulled the trigger. He died of a gunshot wound to the head at his home in Plymouth, Minnesota, on May 16, 2018.
