Keithan Deshun Whitmire

Age 15

Asheville, North Carolina

The boy with many silly faces

From a young age, he knew he had to be a leader. He was the oldest of his single mother’s six children, an honor roll student, and an athlete at Asheville High School, with four years under his belt as a wrestler.

He was a fierce protector of his mother, but sometimes, he was a kid, too. He was a joker who always made people laugh. “He would make these faces that you couldn't help but burst out laughing," a neighbor said.

On April 18, 2018, Keithan Deshun Whitmire, 15, died alongside his mother and sister in Asheville, North Carolina, after being shot by his mother’s boyfriend.
