Jamar Harris

Age 18

Merrillville, Indiana

Shots rang out, two were dead

It’s a 16-minute drive from Gary, Indiana, to Merrillville, Indiana. About eight miles would separate him from his home in Gary and trouble in the neighboring town.

He was 18 years old, had a young child, loved family and liked cars. A photo depicts him crouched inside the driver’s side of a car, peering up towards the sky with bright eyes.

Eight miles and 15 gunshots later, Jamar Harris, 18, and a friend were killed on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018 in a parked car at Broadmoor Country Club Apartments in Merrillville.
