The songs he would never finish

Loved ones described him as protective and loving. He took pride in his role as a big brother, and he would always say something if he saw a classmate being bullied.

He also had a fun-loving side. Friends called him “Dee” or “Slim.” He loved sports, fishing and motocross. He had just recently begun to learn music and song-writing.

Davontae Ray Mesa, 16, was a student at West Valley High School in Yakima, Washington. He was fatally shot at a park and died Nov. 23, 2018.
