David C. Sankey

Age 16

Champaign, Illinois

He was a miracle baby. Gone.

When he was 8, he took care of his mother as she battled breast cancer. She described him as “special, a funny and respectful son.”

He had a knack for making his friends laugh and being there for them. He loved to film music videos, dancing around his bedroom.

On Aug. 29, 2018, David C. Sankey, 16, was fatally shot in the head in Champaign, Illinois. At David’s vigil, his mother cried: “God knows he was a miracle baby. When I was told I couldn't have no kid, God gave him to me. He had every right to take him back — but not that way.”
