Mourning before celebration in New Orleans

He squints a little as he looks into the camera on a sunny day. On each blue-and-white collar is embroidered a rose.

His mother had been working in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, that day. A woman in a nearby parking lot offered to drive a friend to her in order to deliver the bad news. “They said he was a good kid,” said the kind stranger.

On April 16, 2018, life was cut short for Christopher Bishop Thomas, 18. He was found with a gunshot wound to the head in a gray SUV in the B.W. Cooper area of New Orleans. A family friend misses him calling her phone just to “crack jokes.”
