Mason Sanders

Age 10

Chicago, Illinois

Together at birth. Together in death.

He smiles widely for the camera, baring a jumble of baby teeth and lips smeared with rainbow of cupcake frosting. Years later, adult teeth have grown in and the frosting is gone, but his smile is still as wide as ever.

His nickname was Mase, and he made up one-half of the “Twinkies,” a nickname his mother used for him and his twin sister.

Mason Sanders, 10, a student at Walt Disney Magnet School in Chicago, Illinois, was killed on Aug. 27, 2018, when his father shot him in the back of the head before turning the gun on himself. His twin was killed as well.
