Justin Richey

Age 16

Brooklyn, New York

Promising boy who served his community

He had just turned 16. He worked numerous jobs, anything from yard work to cleaning, so he could help his mom and siblings. He was one of 10 kids and had just graduated high school. He volunteered in his community. Friends say he wanted to be a doctor.

“He knew how to make me smile. That’s one thing I’m gonna miss,” said Geneva Modeste, a staffer at the community center where he was a mentor.

After getting into an argument outside a bodega, Justin Richey, 16, was beat up and shot five times on July 15, 2018, in Brooklyn, New York.
