Izabella Coleman

Age 5

Detroit, Michigan

She saw the positive in everyone

She loved purple flowers and doing hair. She collected rocks and had hopes of helping the homeless. Facebook posts described a girl with a big heart who saw the positive in everyone.

Her mother, Dejiza, was just 17 when she was born. Her daughter was a “star from the moment [she] opened [her] eyes,” she wrote.

On Sept. 13, 2018, a man entered the home in Detroit, Michigan, where Izabella Coleman, 5, and Dejiza were sleeping. Dejiza was shot 16 times; Izabella was shot in the head and taken to Sinai Grace Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
