Missed target ends with a death

As a baby, his piercing blue eyes were so large they seemed to swallow his chubby cheeks. As a teenager, the eyes were smaller and the cheeks less chubby. But his eyes were still striking.

His nickname was “Shug,” short for sugar, because he was so sweet. He hugged his family before bedtime, went out of his way to make his friends laugh, and even tried to tag along on his sister’s dates to protect her.

Zackary Taylor Kempke, 14, died on Sept. 23, 2018, in Rich County, Utah, after a mistaken shot by a target shooter, who has been charged with negligent homicide.
