Zachary James Whittington

Age 16

Carmichael, California

His birth gave his mother hope

He was a blessing; his birth gave his mother hope. “When I had him, I thought parenting would be easy,” she said later. “I thought the world would be right.”

When it happened, he wasn’t home but in an apartment on Manzanita Avenue in Carmichael, a suburb of Sacramento, California. He’d been staying there for a couple of days.

Police responded to a report of shots fired at the apartment and found Zachary James Whittington inside with multiple gunshot wounds on July 15, 2018. His brother George, said, “They took my baby brother, and I want justice for him.” Zachary, who was 16 years old, was allegedly shot by a 13 year old boy.
