Age 17

Omaha, Nebraska

A new beginning, suddenly cut short

Omaha North High Magnet School was familiar and unfamiliar: He’d been there only a month, but already he was reconnecting with friends from a stay at Boys Town, a community that supports at-risk youth.

On Feb. 25, 2018, he went to 25th Street and Crown Point Avenue in north Omaha to sell marijuana to another teen. A 14-year-old middle school student he didn’t know showed up. He grew hesitant. The boy drew a gun.

Zachary Rollen Parker, 17, was shot and killed in Omaha, Nebraska, that day. The 14-year-old was charged in adult court with second-degree murder.
