"Sweet kid with a big heart"

One of seven children, he was “an outgoing young man” with “positive vibes.”

Nicknamed “King Ty,” he played basketball and “had his plan made” for the future, his family said. A Facebook comment later called him “(a) sweet kid with a big heart too.”

On March 17, 2018, Ty Matthew Martinez, 17, was driving a silver sedan on Colfax Avenue in Denver, Colorado. Police said he “appeared to be fleeing” another car. Gunshots were fired. Martinez was shot and crashed his car into a building. He was pronounced dead at Denver Health Medical Center. The gunshot killed him, the medical examiner said.
