Tevita Puniani Maile

Age 2

West Valley City, Utah

Beloved son of a Tongan family

He was doted on as part of a close-knit Tongan family, with an older brother and two sisters. His name was the Tongan form of David, a Hebrew name in the Bible derived from dod, meaning “beloved.”

He greeted every person he met with “a contagious smile and upbeat energy,” according to his parents, who started a business named after him.

Tevita Puniani Maile, 2, accidentally shot himself at home in West Valley City, Utah, around midnight on May 26, 2018.
