Roy’Ale Bruce Elon Spencer

Age 9

Wichita, Kansas

At 9, a bustling social life

Every day, he left his backpack and skateboard lying on the floor. It was his mother’s biggest pet peeve, but she never stayed angry, relenting to his goofy smile and comforting cuddles.

There was always something fun coming his way, whether it was his brother’s football games or a sleepover at a friend’s house. He had plans for the latter on the night of MLK Day. “I love you Roy, I’ll see you tomorrow,” his mom said as she dropped him off.

Nine-year-old Roy’Ale Bruce Elon Spencer died on Jan. 21, 2019, in Wichita, Kansas. He was visiting a friend and they somehow opened the family’s locked gun safe and took out a loaded shotgun, which accidentally fired.
