Ramon Alejandro Cardona

Age 18

Los Angeles, California

He was ready for dress rehearsal

He was in a summer program with Homeboy Industries, a program that works on giving second chances to young people.

He’d been preparing for a performance to conclude a 10-week Relationship 101 course that uses theater and the arts to teach communication skills and healthy relationships. Another student in the program said that he “was the happiest he had been in a long time.”

On Aug. 8, 2018, Ramon Alejandro Cardona, 18, was fatally shot in an alleyway in Boyle Heights, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, California. Cardona would have been starting a dress rehearsal for the performance hours later.
