Oscar Jose Reyes Alvarado

Age 17

Houston, Texas

He was saving for a car

To his family, he was an inspiration, someone who taught them to smile and enjoy happiness. Perhaps he learned these qualities from his mother, Brenda, whose client said she and her caretaking abilities were a true blessing.

Since his family’s immigration from El Salvador, he began to study in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District and worked hard to save up money for his first car.

On Jan. 21, 2019, 17-year-old Oscar Jose Reyes Alvarado’s girlfriend accidentally shot him to death while playing with a gun in Houston.
