Royse City, Texas

Embodied the “Friendly Touch of Texas”

Easygoing and helpful, he embodied his home city of Royse City, Texas. The town’s slogan: “A Friendly Touch of Texas.” A recent graduate of Royse City High School, he lived on the same block as a close friend who still attended the school.

Their houses stood in the same cul-de-sac of the quiet subdivision of Woodland Creek, a community unused to tragedy. At 3 a.m., most residents were asleep, awoken only by the bang of over six consecutive gunshots.

On Feb. 3, 2019, police found Nick Young, 16, and his 17-year-old friend dead on their street, both fatally shot.
