Mya Lynn Killeen

Age 14

Syracuse, New York

Syracuse native uprooted from loved ones

With five siblings, parents, aunts and grandmother by her side, she’d never had a shortage of people who loved her in Syracuse, New York.

Later, the community would be on her side, too. Clifford Ryan, founder of the local nonviolence organization OG’s Against Violence, called on neighbors to “rally around her and show the family support.”

Mya Lynn Killeen, 14, was killed in on the south side of Syracuse when police say a 13-year old boy shot her in the head on Jan. 22, 2019. The boy’s lawyer said it was an accident. Mya died the next day.
