Makayla S. Bowling

Age 6

Salem, Indiana

She rides with unicorns in heaven

Any mention of unicorns or Hershey’s chocolate brought out her beautiful smile.

She lived with her parents, two sisters and one brother in Salem, Indiana, a town with a population of about 6,000.

This small town was shaken on July 13, 2018, when Makayla S. Bowling, 6, took a bullet to the head when her father’s handgun accidentally discharged while he was cleaning it. She was airlifted from her home to Norton Children's Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, where she later died. Her mother started a fundraiser to buy a unicorn headstone made especially for her grave.
