Jose Alvarez

Age 16

Chicago, Illinois

He was there for his friends

According to a family member who spoke to a reporter via Facebook Messenger, he loved things many teens do: Fortnite. Music. Movies. Family time. “He loved to make friends and be there for them,” she wrote.

Which makes the news video about him chilling, because the eerie silence and the sound of crickets in the city isn’t normal. And he was.

Jose Alvarez, 16, was shot in the chest at 10:26 p.m. near his home on North Rutherford Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center and pronounced dead at 11:11 p.m.
