Fourth grader, fan of The Flash

A fourth-grader at Harris Elementary School, he was hooked on “The Flash,” the crime-solving superhero whose life “stopped the minute his mother was murdered.” His father, a former Marine, had died a year before after long battle with cancer.

On Dec. 28, his mother’s boyfriend began shooting up his home. His grandmother barricaded him, his sister and herself in a room.

Jonathan Douglas Kasten, 10, was shot and killed along with his 8-year-old sister, mother and grandmother in St. Charles, Missouri. Hundreds of community members attended their candlelight vigil; their GoFundMe page raised $30,856 in eight days.
