He didn’t answer his mom’s texts

A sophomore at Quality Education Academy in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, he wanted to enlist in the Army.

In late May, he went out with a friend. Though his mother sent him several texts, he didn’t reply. Police said a drug deal was underway when shouts broke out and a gun was fired.

Jonathan Armando Garcia, 16, was shot and killed on May 25, 2018. His mother said strangers showed up at the hospital to ask about him. “How did they know what happened to my son and I did not even know who they are?” she asked.
