Joaquim Cadell

Age 7

Middletown, Pennsylvania

He was his mother’s miracle baby

The night of the vigil was bitterly cold, the local paper noted, and ”too windy” for candles. So instead, friends and community members stacked stuffed animals on the stairs leading to the house. “The light beats out the darkness every time,” said the family’s landlord, George Crist.

The family frequented Wesley United Methodist Church. After two miscarriages, his mother gave birth to him, her “miracle baby.”

Joaquim Cadell was 7 years old when he and his mother were shot dead by his father, who then committed suicide, on Jan. 2, 2019 in Middletown, Pennsylvania. They were found by police three days later.
