Chicago, Illinois

A good friend, a good soul

His friends remember many years of joyful memories and brotherhood. They described him as a “good soul.”

He grew up in the bungalow-dotted Belmont Central neighborhood of Chicago, attending Mary Lyon Elementary School until eighth grade and later moving up to Steinmetz College Prep for high school.

Jesus A. Lopez, 16, nicknamed “Lil Jay,” was  shot in the chest and arms in the neighborhood  on July 14, 2018. He died at Illinois Masonic Medical Center, seven miles from his school.
