Jazmyne Jeter

Age 15

Chicago, Illinois

She wasn’t supposed to be shot

A slideshow displays dozens of pictures of her posing in stylish outfits, lips pursed and hands on her hips, for the camera. In one, captioned “Mommy,” she smiles widely with her mother sitting next to her.

Her family left Englewood, a notoriously violent area of Chicago with some recent success in crime reduction, for a safer life in South Chicago.

On a return visit to the old neighborhood with her sister, Jazmyne Jeter, 15, a student at ACE Technical Charter High School, was shot and killed by a suspected gang member on May 8, 2018.
