Jamontae Blacknall

Age 14

Henderson, North Carolina

His birthday remembered forever in song

In the photo, he stands against a wall, one knee bent to support him, his black and red shirt contrasting with the stark white background. On his birthday, friends and family released into the sky red, black, white and gold balloons, the same colors as his outfit.

His aunt, Brianna Blacknall, dedicated her EP, “Israel,” to him. In the first line of the song “July 23rd,” she says, “Rest in peace to my nephew. Happy birthday boy. We love you.”

On March 10, 2018, Jamontae Blacknall, 14, was found shot on Pinkston Street in Henderson, North Carolina. He later died.
