Jersey City, New Jersey

Lived and died surrounded by friends

A friend called her “kind-hearted and sweet,” someone who almost always was smiling. Graduation was eight months away. After receiving her diploma, she hoped to study cosmetology.

In a crowd, the spotlight always seemed to find her. Whether at school with friends or hanging out with her boyfriend, her “bubbly” personality made her the “centerpiece of everything.”

Jade Anderson Saunders, 17, was hanging out in the hallway of a building on Brinkerhoff Street in Jersey City, New Jersey, on Oct. 26, 2018, when someone entered with a gun. She was shot and killed. As always, her friends were there.
