Jabari Steffon Montplaisir

Age 17

Newark, New Jersey

Son. Brother. Best friend. Now gone.

A son and brother, he lived by the motto “Before you judge, learn what they’ve been through.” In Swahili, his name meant “fearless one.”

The Barringer High School graduate had many friends. He loved making them laugh and protecting them. His best friend loved him dearly. "Lord knows I miss you a lot! I’ll do anything to have you back,” she captioned an old Facebook post months after she last saw him.

On July 24, 2018, Jabari Steffon Montplaisir, 17, was fatally shot in Newark in a double homicide. He was six days away from his 18th birthday.
