Isabella Perez

Age 15

Katy, Texas

Something was not right at home

She would hint to her friend that something was wrong at home. “She always said there were problems but she could never really talk about it,” her friend reflected.

Her mother was spending a night out. When her mother returned home, her daughters and their stepfather were nowhere in sight. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez noted that the situation might have been an act of domestic violence. A gun in the presence of a domestic violence situation increases homicide risk.

On Nov. 4, 2018, deputies in Katy, Texas, found Isabella Perez, 15, shot dead in an upstairs bedroom alongside her sister and stepfather.
