Hudson Brooks Fife

Age 11

Tuscaloosa, Alabama

He was a friend to all

A fifth-grader at Englewood Elementary School, he was called “Hud Bud,” with a special way of helping students with special needs. “I'm here for you, we're normal, we can be friends,” he’d say.

More than 500 people released balloons — blue and orange for the Oklahoma City Thunder, his favorite team. “Thank you for always being full of joy,” a handwritten message read.

Hudson Brooks Fife, 11, was with friends and family when he was accidentally shot and killed while hunting in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Jan. 13, 2019. His sister found him holding his rifle. “He just wanted a big buck,” she said.
