Never made it back to work

Suspended from school, he was in an alternative program at the Five Towns Community Center. But his new boss at an Italian restaurant thought he was "very hardworking and attentive.” She paid him on Monday night, expecting him to return.

Hours later, he was behind the center, waiting for a girl. Police said he’d been lured by a promise of sex but that the 13-year-old girl was bait, part of a gang implicated in another murder two days before.

Harold B. Sermeno, 17, was shot and killed on Dec. 18, 2018 in Lawrence, New York. He never returned to work.
