The boy with the “awesome soul”

At 16 years old, he was wounded in a drive-by shooting at a birthday party. No witnesses came forward. A community pastor pointed to the “code of silence” and historical mistrust of police that prevents witnesses from helping investigators solve cases.

A year later, he was a senior at North Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, and a member of Living Water Fellowship Church. His middle school coach described his “awesome soul.”

On Nov. 29, his mother came home from work and found bullet holes in the door and her son’s body on the couch. Elizah Fount Gordon, 17, had been shot and killed.
