Desmond Rashard Cox

Age 18

Bay Minette, Alabama

Her only son taken by accident

He was planning to graduate from Mattie T. Blount High School this year.

“He was a very sweet boy,” his friend’s mother wrote on Facebook. He had a close bond with his family, too. He was “more than just my brother,” said his sister, Monyea Cox, in a Facebook tribute. “We grew up like best friends.”

On Jan. 18, 2019, Desmond Rashard Cox, 18, accidentally shot himself while handling a loaded gun in an Anderson Boulevard home in Bay Minette, Alabama. He was airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital, where he died from injuries sustained from a single gunshot wound.
