Deshawn Angel Burgos

Age 18

Ashland, Virginia

Risked his life to save dog

Once, he saw a dog being swept away by the river. Without hesitating, he jumped into the rushing waters to save the dog. He didn’t pause to think if the dog was sick or would bite. He had an enormous heart and endless supply of love.

Every day at Hanover High School, he’d say hello to those he passed in the hall. Even his bus driver noticed his positivity. After graduation, he joined the ROTC.

Deshawn Angel Burgos, 18, was shot fatally on Oct. 31, 2018, Halloween Night, in Ashland, Virginia.
