De’Jana Mone’ Leary

Age 15

Norfolk, Virginia

Jokester, cook, sister, model. Then, gone.

Her mother called her a “goofy jokester” who loved life. She had four siblings. The 15-year-old loved food and was known for “making one of the best banana puddings around.”

Young children in her neighborhood looked up to her as a leader, and she was considering becoming a pediatrician. She had also been in some modeling shoots and was interested in the fashion industry. One Sunday night, she parked outside her boyfriend’s house.

De’Jana Mone’ Leary, 15, was shot and killed on July 22, 2018, in Norfolk, Virginia, when an assailant, since arrested, fired into her parked SUV.
