Darnelle Flowers

Age 17

Chicago, Illinois

He wanted something better from life

The Fenger Academy High School student was from Belize and had been living in Chicago for over a decade. His nickname, “Bibby,” was tattooed on his right forearm.

His girlfriend, Makiya Bell, described him as caring. Once, when his neighbor Adrienne Lando was feeling sick, he finished cooking dinner for her. He was also part of the JROTC Progress program at school, with dreams of one day joining the Army.

Over a decade after his father died from gun violence, Darnelle Flowers, 17, was shot dead alongside another teen on August 19, 2018, near Chicago’s Golden Gate Park.
