Teen had deep mind and soul

According to Hawaiian legend, the moon goddess Hina lives in the cave at the foot of Rainbow Falls, an 80-foot waterfall renowned for its morning rainbow. Ten miles from the cave is Hilo High School, her alma mater.

She was smart, strong-minded and beautiful. Her “mind and soul [were] deep and strong,” said Bryanne Sagon, who organized a fundraiser called “For Taty,” after her nickname.

Danielle Taty’ana Maile Samson-Cabral, 18, was accidentally shot in the head at her home in Pahoa, Hawaii. She died on September 24, 2018 around 11 p.m., when the moon goddess would have likely been shining.
