DaMontay Darius Wheeler

Age 17

Winnsboro, South Carolina

Bullet found him on night walk

He wasn’t best known for staying out of trouble, but he was a “down to earth and respectful young man [who] knew how to treat people and help others,” according to Ms. Shirley, an English teacher at his school, Fairfield Central High School.

He enjoyed Matt Mob, a Southern hip-hop artist from South Carolina. He lived in Winnsboro, a small town in Fairfield County, South Carolina, where he worked at Italian Gardens. The town is thought of as safe, but one night for him wasn’t.

DaMontay Darius Wheeler, 17, was shot and killed on August 22, 2018 in Drawdy Park.
