Damian Michael Wilkins

Age 8

Willits, California

Curious kid, he loved to build

Reached by text, his best friend’s aunt called him “curious” and “full of wonder.” His great-grandmother said that he loved building things “whether it be with pieces of wood, nails and hammer” or his beloved Legos.

Those who knew his mother, Krissy, said that his father, Michael, was “abusive” and “controlling.” A friend took them in after they were found living in their car. But eventually, Michael smashed Krissy’s windshield and “took them away (again) onto the streets.”

Damian Michael Wilkins, 8, was shot and killed by his father on Jan. 11, 2019, in Willits, California. Michael also killed Krissy and then himself.
