Cortez Harris

Age 18

Dolton, Illinois

A sweet nickname, a bitter end

His nickname was “Chocolate.” Almost $900 would be raised on a GoFundMe page for his “home going.”

The day after it happened, his older brother posted on Facebook, “(Y)ou took my heart with you b.” A friend replied, “I Blamed Myself For This One.” His sister changed the photo on her Facebook profile to an image of him wearing a bright red track suit.

On Nov. 19, 2018, Cortez Harris, 18, was shot and killed in Dolton, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. He was taken to Franciscan Health Hospital in nearby Hammond, Indiana, and died later that evening.
