China Marie Lyons-Upshaw

Age 17

Chicago, Illinois

Hair and makeup, done to perfection

She put together outfits fit for a department store window. Perhaps that’s why friends called her “China Doll.” Her love of fashion and makeup led her to want to study cosmetology.

It was Memorial Day weekend, and she was looking forward to prom — the perfect place for a beloved and fun-loving fashionista to showcase her radiance. She didn’t even need a date; it would be a wonderful night with friends. A night to remember.

On May 26, 2018 in Chicago, China Marie Lyons-Upshaw, 17, was accidentally shot in the chest in her bedroom after someone playing with a gun dropped it, causing it to discharge.
