Austin Tyler Steele

Age 18

Lancaster, South Carolina

He’d been shot and nobody knew

He loved working with his hands and hoped to become an engineer. He had been orphaned at age 13. According to his caretaker, he was on the autism spectrum, but was independent and often went on trips by himself.

He was absent from his hometown, Lancaster, South Carolina, prior to his death. Friends and family were unconcerned, since he enjoyed long road trips alone. It was not until he’d been gone for three to four weeks that they filed a missing child report.

Austin Tyler Steele, 18, died of a single gunshot wound on March 1, 2018. Police found his body dismembered and burned near the mobile home in which he lived.
