Aurelia Izabella Castillo

Age 14

Shelbyville, Kentucky

Like any other kid, yet vulnerable

In the photo, it’s a sunny day at the pumpkin farm. Her skin looks warm. Her oval face has features that seem to fit perfectly, eyebrows arching over deep brown eyes. She’s in her wheelchair, leaning back on a neck pillow with colorful polka dots. “I’m not sorry,” her T-shirt reads.

Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth, she was still going on outings, though her uncle said that seizures were “deteriorating” her health.

Aurelia Izabella Castillo, 14, died on March 12, 2018, in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Her grandmother and longtime caretaker shot her, then turned the gun on herself.
