Anthony Latorre Jr.

Age 3

Monett, Missouri

He thought it was a toy

He was a toddler, the youngest of three boys. He was supposed to start preschool in September. Instead, his father made a gruesome discovery.

That Tuesday morning, he woke up before anyone else in the house and made his way to the garage. With childlike enthusiasm, he opened the family car to play and found something he may have thought was a toy. The police chief said the gun was “inside the passenger area, not secured.”

Anthony Latorre Jr. fatally shot himself in the head in his parents’ car in Monett, Missouri, on June 26, 2018. He was 3 years old.
