Alberto R. Tavares

Age 16

Brockton, Massachusetts

Went for a ride. Didn’t return.

Like most 16-year-olds, he had goofy moments, gazing into a camera and wearing a tiny bib that read, “Baby’s 1st St. Patrick’s Day.”

He went for a ride with his older brother, who was driving the car. The passenger in the back seat was “handling a firearm.” A nurse at a local hospital noticed the car on her way to work at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital in Brockton, Massachusetts.

Alberto R. “Walter” Tavares was shot through the front seat on Sept. 14, 2018. It happened near the James Edgar playground. Tavares was taken to Signature Healthcare hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
