Simple community service gave him joy

He was attached at the hip to his best friend, Anjanae Thornton, since they were 2 years old. He was “the type of person that people needed,” Anjanae said.

He loved playing basketball and helped his community in simple ways, like carrying groceries for anyone who asked. He was a kind and sweet person who, in Anjanae’s eyes, was always happy. He loved spending Fourth of July and winters with her, building memories.

Aarion Phillips, 17, was shot and killed in the Peabody Housing Complex in St. Louis, Missouri, on May 13, 2018 at 1:30 p.m.
